Build the Change to schools of your children

What is it about?

As part of the project, free workshops are offered to 3rd–5th grade classes of Czech elementary schools, focusing on developing creativity and attitudes toward sustainability. Currently available programs include Help the Pollinators, Birds in Trouble, and Playful Cities.

The aim of the project is to introduce children to important topics in a simple and engaging way, involve them through questions and activities, and nurture their creativity. With LEGO® bricks, children can turn their ideas into reality, share them with classmates, and strengthen both their skills and imagination.

Workshops in schools are usually led by experienced instructors, but we believe they’re even better with two people. That’s why we would be glad if you joined us. Together, we can make the workshop even more effective — and you’ll have the unique opportunity to see how it works in your child’s classroom.

What can you expect?

Our coordinator will find the best date for you and the nominated school. You will receive a short guide on the topic chosen by the teacher, as well as a brief online training on working with children.

On the day of the event, you will meet our instructor in front of the school. Together, you will go to the class you nominated. However, it may happen that other classes also want to take part in the program. In that case, we will give them the opportunity and count on your support. Don’t worry — there will never be more than three workshops, and you will always be informed in advance.

How does it work?

Each workshop runs a little differently (you’ll find all the details in the guide), but in general, the workshop is divided into three parts:

1. Discovering
The first part is mainly led by our instructor. They introduce the children to the Build the Change project, to you, and to the topic along with the key facts they need to address the challenge. We’ll be happy if you join in too and share a bit about your role at the LEGO Group.

2. Building
The children use LEGO bricks to build solutions to the given task. You and the instructor take part as well — talking with them about their models and ideas, helping them find the right bricks, or brainstorming together how to bring an idea to life.

3. Presenting
Once the models are finished, you and the children tidy up the bricks and then move to a small exhibition of their creations. Everyone shows what they built and talks about their ideas and solutions.

For each topic, we have a guide. Inside, you’ll find suggested questions you can ask the children (or they may ask you), along with interesting facts and background information. And don’t worry — there will always be an instructor with you in the classroom.

What needs to be done?

At this stage, you just need to fill out the registration form. Based on that, we’ll send you an email with a letter for the class teacher. You can either hand it over in person or send it electronically. Once we receive the completed form from the teacher as well, we’ll agree on a date together, send you all the materials, and meet you in the classroom.

FAQ

We’re glad you enjoyed being with us, and we’ll be happy to see you again. However, we also need to give other colleagues a chance, so we’ll place you at the end of the list. Don’t worry — there will definitely be a spot for you, and the class you choose will still get to experience the workshop.

If you don’t know the answer to a curious question, that’s absolutely fine. There will be an instructor with you throughout the entire workshop who has your back. And if even they don’t know, it’s no problem at all. After all, we’re only human — and the children will see that it happens to adults too.

We always try to arrange the workshop date with both you and the teacher so that it works well for everyone. Sometimes, however, it may not work out, or something beyond our control might happen. In that case, we will adjust according to the situation. But rest assured — the children will not miss out on the workshop.

If you’d like to register more classes, just let us know in the field “Which class do you want to register” and we’ll try to make it work. You have two days available for volunteering. If both classes are at the same school, we can manage them in one day. Otherwise, we would send our instructor there on their own.
